EMA’s Green Streaming Guide for March 2023

EMA has you covered if you are tired of watching the same old movies and are looking for something new.

We've compiled a selection of five films and TV shows that explore different components of environmentalism for our Green March Streaming Guide. These insightful, informative works below showcase key issues in the sustainability movement, ranging from sustainable production on set to themes surrounding water consumption, animal welfare, and climate change.

HBO Extrapolations | March 17

Extrapolations (S1, E1) will premiere solely on Apple TV+ on March 17th. The cast of this new drama series will be at our IMPACT Summit to speak about their new show!
As the world's climate continues to decline and threaten the planet's health, Extrapolations will present critical commentary on the ongoing environmental crisis. Every character in the series — scientists, children, or political leaders — will convey a strong message about the need for efficient action to save the planet and humanity. Climate change has become the focus of worldwide concern and is present during many episodes of this new drama series.

The Mandalorian Season 3 | March 1

Disney+ has officially confirmed a March 1, 2023 release date for Season 3, and the Mandalorian's journey through the Star Wars galaxy continues. From then on, new episodes will show every Wednesday for The Mandalorian.

The crew implemented LED-powered lights using 70% less energy than corresponding fluorescent lighting. Additionally, the team was intentional with the materials utilized; they used foam and luan that don't cause as much harm to the environment.
The Mandalorian Season 3 received our Gold Seal for projects that scored 125 points and more in sustainable production efforts.

Blue Back | March 3

Despite being available for viewing abroad last month, the American release of Blue Back will take place on March 3rd.
In Australia, Abby is working on coral reef research when her mother experiences a health scare, prompting her to return to the town where she grew up. Her childhood memories include living in harmony with the ocean and her mother's efforts to protect the bay from greedy developers and invasive fishermen.
An important theme in Blue Back is environmentalism, where the main character's mother inspires her to fight against poachers who threaten fish stocks.

Prom Pack | March 31

Prom Pact is a Green Seal Recipient for honoring sustainable production and an environmental focus while promoting this film.

During the production of this film, the crew was incredibly environmentally conscious of their carbon footprint while filming. For the catering team to create less waste in food on set, the production estimated how many cast and crew members would be on-site each day. Limiting single-use plastics was a priority for eating and feeding the team. On set, there were reusable utensils and compostable containers.

In Prom Pact, the central character is a feminist who rejects experiencing love, mainly heteronormative love, until the main character herself has an irrefutable, genuine connection.

Reflection: A Walk With Water | March 7

Reflection: A Walk With Water, produced by Emmett Brennan, is about Brennan's journey with like-minded environmentalists on a several-hundred-mile trip up the Los Angeles Aqueduct to raise awareness about California's water issue.

California's water neglect has resulted in water shortages, harmful dust particles in the air, and the vulnerability of many places to large wildfires. This film is a powerful acknowledgment of the climate emergency and urges Californians to rethink their handling of this fundamental resource.
