The Deepest Breath

July 14, 2023 (Netflix)

"The Deepest Breath" will be released on Netflix on July 14, 2023. Showcased at the Sundance film festival, Laura McGann's documentary about champion freediver Alessia Zecchini is catching people's breath and attention.

Sustainable practices and awareness have many overlaps with free diving. Firstly, conservation and appreciation of marine ecosystems. Free divers often have a deep connection with the ocean and its inhabitants. By immersing themselves in the marine environment, they develop a profound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of underwater ecosystems. This connection can inspire them to advocate for marine conservation and work towards sustainable practices to protect and preserve these delicate ecosystems. Secondly, free divers reduce the ecological footprint. Free diving requires minimal equipment compared to other forms of diving. By embracing a more straightforward and more natural approach to diving, free divers contribute to reducing the demand for equipment production, energy consumption, and waste generation associated with traditional scuba diving.

Barbie

July 21, 2023 (Theaters)

"Barbie" will be released in theaters on July 21, 2023. Following dozens of direct-to-video animations, Mattel's iconic plastic doll is stepping onto the big screen for her first live-action film.

The connection between the Barbie movie and Mattel is inherent, as Mattel is the company behind creating and producing the Barbie doll. Mattel is a well-known toy manufacturing company and the creator of the iconic Barbie brand. The Barbie movie, therefore, serves as a platform for Mattel to showcase its flagship product and bring the beloved Barbie character to life on the big screen. The film acts as a means for Mattel to expand the Barbie franchise beyond dolls and merchandise, immersing audiences in a dynamic storytelling experience centered around the iconic character.

Barbie knows that we must do more to provide a better future for the next generation. As part of Mattel's 2030 vision, 100% recycled, recyclable or biodegradable plastics will be used in products and packaging.

"Barbie" is an EMA Green Gold Seal recipient.

While not all films may explicitly showcase sustainable production practices, it is evident that cinema intersects with sustainability in various ways. From environmental themes and narratives that raise awareness about ecological issues to promoting sustainable lifestyle choices through storytelling and character development, films can be powerful tools for fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability.

Moreover, the film industry is gradually moving towards more sustainable practices, with initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprints, promoting responsible waste management, and incorporating eco-friendly alternatives in production processes gaining momentum. As audiences become more conscious of environmental concerns, there is increasing demand for films that align with sustainability values, encouraging filmmakers to adopt more eco-conscious approaches.
