"My passion is simple: I'm fully dedicated to promoting environmental action and innovation through storytelling… and reading labels!"

Simple yet effective. For the last two decades, EMA CEO Debbie Levin has crafted an approach that has broken free of the environmental echo chamber and attracted a much wider audience to the cause. How? By messaging in a way that leads with empathy, not judgment, and includes two relevant things to everyone: health and family. Thankfully, the rest of the movement is catching up, leading with solutions instead of fear. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) aligns with this message, offering accessible research and determinations that allow people to make safer choices for the planet and public health. For this reason, EWG awarded EMA CEO Debbie Levin the Changemaker Award at their annual Earth Day Dinner in San Francisco.

This year's dinner theme was "California Championing Change," emphasizing the state and its leadership, paving the way for substantial progress in the fight to safeguard public health. Debbie joined an esteemed group of changemakers that included Assemblymember Laura Friedman, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, Assemblymember Chris Holden, and Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi.

During her acceptance speech, Debbie recognized EWG's essential work and how it has become a fundamental part of any conscious consumer's routine. "I love what EWG does so much because it's tangible. It's like grabbing an umbrella when it's raining or ensuring you go for your annual checkup. It's about knowing stuff. I always talk about personal activism, and EWG is fantastic at helping us facilitate it."

The entire EMA community is grateful to have a visionary leader in Debbie Levin, and we can't thank EWG enough for recognizing the hard work of this year's changemakers.
