The Dream Corps

Van Jones is the President and Founder of The Dream Corps, a CNN political commentator, Yale-educated attorney, and author of two New York Times best-selling books, The Green Collar Economy and Rebuild the Dream. Van sits on the Executive Board of the Environmental Media Association.

The Dream Corps was founded by Jones in 2014 to help cutting-edge initiatives grow big enough to impact millions of lives. The Dream Corps supports economic, environmental and criminal justice innovators, with a shared platform that helps leaders create synergies, leapfrog obstacles and maximize impact. Every day, The Dream Corps works to reshape “what’s possible” in the field of social justice by building connections between aspiring leaders, world-class partners, smart digital tools and national media platforms.

The Dream Corps currently drives four initiatives:

cut50

#cut50 seeks to reduce the U.S. prison population by half and facilitate relationships between leaders from both parties, tech entrepreneurs, and criminal justice activists so they can identify solutions to mass incarceration and effective alternative sentencing programs.

Through a series of community-focused summits and workshops, #cut50 will increase general awareness of the burden mass incarceration puts on society and the colossal waste of resources being expended in the current criminal justice system.

#GreenForAll works to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

The goal is to make sure people of color have a place and a voice in the climate movement. That our neighborhoods are strong, resilient, and healthy. That as the clean energy economy grows, it brings jobs and opportunities to our communities.

#FrontlinesFirst, a #GreenForAll campaign focuses on solutions for communities at the frontlines of the climate crisis. Low income communities and communities of color are on the frontlines of some of the worst pollution in America — due to their proximity to the dirtiest sources. #GreenForAll is committed to reversing this trend and holding polluters accountable. Polluters should pay, not families.

#GreenForAll also stands with families in Flint, Michigan through their campaign #FixThePipies. When Michigan Governor Rick Snyder decided to cut corners to save money and switched Flint’s water supply to the Flint River, he sent water so toxic into Flint homes that it rotted the pipes, poisoned the city, and created a crisis. Three years later, the pipes are still not fixed! For every $10k raised, the pipes in one home in can be repaired.

It is a home for changemakers who seek to build community and deepen solidarity. Through education, connection and action, the #LoveArmy builds Love + Power.

#YesWeCode provides low-opportunity youth with the necessary resources and tools to become high-level computer programmers. By learning this highly valuable and relevant 21st century skill, these young people can not only shift the trajectory of their own futures, but transform their relationships with their communities and their country. In collaboration with grassroots training programs, job-training programs, tech companies and employers, school districts, and community stakeholders, #YesWeCode is building a pipeline solution to introduce low-opportunity, job-focused young people to careers in technology.
